This inspires laborers since they can upgrade their vocation just as procure (Engardio, 2006). Organizations can likewise fill the activity positions with laborers with J-1 visa type. The Anzac Hero Australian Militant

Question: Examine about theThe Anzac Herofor Australian Militant. Answer: Presentation The Anzac is utilized to grasp and perceive the Australian activists who battled and relinquished themselves to show the world that they spoke to a solid country Australia. Most of the Anzacs battled as troops in the British Empire during a period when the Australians named the United Kingdom as an old nation. In spite of the fact that they had this origination Australian soldiers kept on battling during the First World War under Britain leader. Regardless of the resolute endeavors of the Australian soldiers for the most part the Anzacs, under unforgiving conditions, their valor was not perceived by the writers (Watson, 2008). In any case, Charles Bean has assumed an essential job in looking for data about the Australian saints and uncovered them. This gallantry stories dependent on generalizations delineate Australia as a country that was really conceived at Gallipoli. It is one hundred years since the bold and young residents raged the Anzac bay, that they have at long last come to be known as Anzacs, the national legends. Also, this acknowledgment has prompted a solid national story which has considered Australia to be a nation utilize the generalization for social and current turn of events. The Anzac day has likewise been set out which is praised in April consistently in recognition of these national legends. This paper hence investigates the job of the Anzac generalization in present day personality advancement in Australia. The Anzac day The Anzac day is among the most significant national events in Australia. This is on the grounds that this day denotes the main significant military accomplishments that were accomplished through a solid battle by the Australian and New Zealand troops in the First World War (Slade, 2003). It is during this period that Australia made a heritage to the world creation the nation to turn into an amazing (Donoghue and Tranter, 2015). Accordingly, the term Anzac implies Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. This is the day when the warriors walked to Turkey and occupied with a genuine battle lastly took over Constantinople. Albeit Australian powers imagined that Turkey would give up, they were astonished by the retaliatory battle which made huge wounds troops from the two sides. Importance of Anzac to Australia The Anzac legend generalization is of incredible essentialness to the historical backdrop of Australian culture and present day personality. This caused them to build up a social demeanor towards war and the improvement of an administration. At first, Australia used to be a government province with significant levels of energy for a long time. During this time they were offering help to Britain with guarantees of fashioning their own national personality (Slade, 2003). A significant part of the achievement depended on the eagerness by numerous Australian men who thought about the war as an incredible open door for them to experience and travel. In any case, these Australian men didn't consider the hardships that they would look on the combat zone. After First World War At the point when the war reached a conclusion, the impression of the troopers who endure changed in light of the fact that they were celebrated by the administration and general society. They were developed to be the mythic saints because of their ability against the foe (Watson, 2008). The regard agreed to these men was considerably more on the grounds that their accomplishment was extraordinary in spite of the way that they were not prepared in the military. By wandering into different wars with Vietnam and Korea during the Second World War, the Anzacs saints got more regard than previously. Anzac has changed the personality of Australia since it has empowered the development of national character with an observation that Anzacs are stereotypic saints. National Identity The Anzac assumes a basic job to the fantasies on which the Australians can be recognized through the Anzac day festivities. This character is perceived worldwide through vigils whose point is to celebrate the Anzac legends. Sooner or later during the Vietnam War, the Anzac day festivities diminished because of analysis albeit later on the services have expanded to a huge degree. It is worth to take note of that the adolescent contribute the most noteworthy help to the help of the Australian military saints. Thus, the adolescent and the moderately aged Australian residents are bound to connect with Anzacs at a nearby level than the elderly individuals. This implies the Anzac legends acknowledgment is probably going to prosper more in future. Thinking about the tertiary taught individuals, city occupants and those that lean towards some governmental issues, Anzac acknowledgment is not many (Thomson, 1990). Notwithstanding, it is significant that a country brags a brilliant past saints so the poise and rebuilding can be given the importance they merit. With regards to giving of approximations to holy people and legends of a brilliant age in Australia, the Anzac is the most gatherings perceived. Regarding character, almost all Australians utilize the fantasy of Anzac so as to guarantee back what is theirs on the grounds that they accept that they are extremely bold (Watson, 2008). By partner themselves with Anzac saints, the Australians partner themselves with the past, yet they likewise give proper respect to these legends. In addition, the Anzac fantasies are an image of being fearless and guaranteeing what is really theirs. These generalizations likewise demonstrate the moderate nature that is exceptionally esteemed by the residents, particularly the youthful age (Slade, 2003). The enduring association between the Australians and the Anzac generalization is to a great extent because of their scene. The Anzac has the accounts about the cruel scene that the men experienced during the wars (Harper White, 2010). As per Thomson, 1990, this generalization causes Australians to have the option to beat the poignancy of diaspora and rather be energetic to their nation. This generalization has risen above the personality of Australia in both physiological just as physical limits and fringes. Utilization of legendary generalizations extends the aggregate comprehension about the past and the fate of Australians. The Anzac legend, along these lines, empowers the Australians to be OK with the fantasies just as ideas of nationhood that are not economical. Rather, this generalization encourages them to abstain from constraining these legends with values and other superfluous images. The chroniclelization of the Anzac generalization will assist the future Australian ages wi th having these real factors and make their country a set up one based on Anzac saints. The height of the Anzac festivities over all other national occasions in Australia fortifies and implies the qualities and character of the residents. To this date, journey, both physical and nonexistent is paid to the Gallipoli to mean the individuals' inclination of harmony which improves great citizenship to this nation. The Anzac generalization empowers the Australian residents to be associated with each other and take part in the national procedure of making fantasies. In addition, individuals have a high feeling of obligation to the Anzac fighters who contended energetically and passed on during those wars (Donoghue and Tranter, 2015). The Anzac saints legend makes an abnormal crease in the open existences of Australians which drives them to have a typical aggregate story, particularly for the white Australians through an aggregate memory of the legends. This generalization makes a fantasy whose objective is to join the Australians on various social and ethnic gatherings throug h the ID of both social and national personality and henceforth the uniqueness of Australians. In Australia today, most of the individuals are ladies on the grounds that most men were killed in the wars. Most of these residents is Australian English, Irish or of Scottish family while a littler extent is from different pieces of the world. The vast majority of these various gatherings moved to Australia after the wars that Anzacs were battling (Slade, 2003). This multicultural structure of the Australians gives them a national personality which is likewise contributed by the different strict convictions. Today, there is a solid conviction among Australians that Anzacs utilized their soul to fashion their national character. This is on the grounds that despite the fact that the Anzacs lost the battle, they made a durable one of a kind character for their country. Besides, the Anzacs set up a model which can be embraced by the people in the future of Australians dependent on Australian qualities. This is bolstered by the way that occasionally back, the fund serve in Australian said that despite the fact that Anzacs utilized qualities which truly characterized whom Australian are, just a couple of the individuals lived by those qualities. Also, during the Australian emergencies, it is accepted that the soul of Anzacs exist in type of floods and bushfires whereby Australians meet and salvage the people in question. End Regardless of the way that Australia has such a significant number of things which are normal to the remainder of the world, there are a portion of the things which are so interesting to them. The issues of mental, physical highlights, language colloquialisms and generalizations are a portion of these one of a kind elements. These variables for example Anzac generalization have impacts of culture just as modernization which assumes a job in national personality. For a long while, Australians have been grasping their legends by putting them on a platform. Reference List Donoghue, J. what's more, Tranter, B., 2015. A Day in the Life of a Freelance Editor

A Day in the Life of a Freelance Editor Freelancing requires a lot of trial and error and many freelancers look back over their experience doing it with equal parts regret (at what they didnt do correctly at the beginning) and pride. Freelance editing is no different. With about 15 years of freelance editing on my resume, Ive seen the upside and the downside to the job. On the upside, Ive enjoyed the freedom that the job allowsâ€"particularly freedom to work from anywhere, as long as there is internet access. As a mother of three, this freedom has allowed me to work around my kids school schedules and be more flexible for things like the inevitable sick days that happen when you have school-age children. On the downside, there have been clients who wont pay, work thats either trickling in or too many deadlines at once, and a lot of business acumen that I had to pick up along the way.If youve ever been curious about what its like to be a freelance editor, heres a look at a day in the life of one.8 am â€" noon: Difficult proj ectsMornings are the best time to work for many writers and editors, particularly following a good nights sleep. Since a freelance editor often has several jobs going at once, I always used this time to tackle the most challenging tasks. From my experience, challenging tasks can include:Academic editing for English as a Second Language (ESL) writers, particularly long assignments such as a thesis or dissertation. While many ESL writers have mastered basic language structure and grammar, writing more in-depth on an academic topic can be especially difficult, requiring an editor to read carefully line by line to determine if there is logic and coherency. In some cases, I have had to paraphrase entire paragraphs of an academic assignment because the writer failed to use coherent language structure and grammar. This can be difficult and time consuming, particularly if the topic of research is something Im not familiar with.Copyediting for magazines, which requires careful reading of all content, including photo captions, the masthead, and advertisements. Magazines and other publications have been hit hard in recent years by a readership that increasingly consumes its news and information online or via smartphones. The financial strength of many publications has weakened and is showing signs that it will continue to do so even more in the coming year. In order to cut costs, which many publications are finding necessary, some are turning to freelance editors to copyedit the issue before it is sent to print. Its easier to higher a freelancer for a few hours work than it is to hire a full-time, on-staff editor.Academic editing for peer reviewed journal submissions. These types of projects involve extensive research on the writers end, so in many cases, writers arent focused on grammar or syntax as much as they are focused on getting the data gathered in their research correct. As with academic editing for ESL writers, these types of assignments can be especially chall enging for a freelance editor because they involve a lot of terminology and research that might be beyond the freelancers expertise.Noon â€" 2 pm: Business and client maintenanceOne of the most surprising things new freelance editors run into as they do their work is how much effort needs to go into advertising your services and keeping a steady stream of new projects coming in. While you might have several projects going at once and feel like youre busy and successful in freelancing, as soon as those deadlines pass and the projects are over, if you havent sought out new work and additional clients, youll find yourself to be out of work. This is the dreaded feast or famine that many freelance editors experience and it can be challenging to avoid unless youre working daily to attract new business. This requires extensive focus on things such as:Email and/or newsletter campaigns to attract new clientsMaintaining an online profile, such as the ones featured on ServiceScape.com. These p rofiles take time to write, and in many cases, require that you upload a portfolio of your editing work. Keep in mind that when you upload your portfolio, be sure that the writer has approved having his or her writing uploaded publicly. In many cases, the writer might be too embarrassed to show how much editing was required for their work and/or might not want their name posted for all to see.Telephone and/or email communication with current clients to ensure that the job you are doing for them meets their expectationsCommunicating with other creatives who might be part of a team on the project youre editing. This is especially true if you are editing content for a website, which usually involves the creative work of several other people.Building and maintaining a website (if you have one). If you have a freelancer profile on freelancer websites, you might be able to skip this part.Invoicing current clients for work already completed. This involves looking back over the time you spe nd on a project and determining how much to charge. You will have likely already discussed this with the client beforehand, so keeping good records of bids youve made is a wise move.Tracking down clients who wont pay or who are behind on their payments. This one was always tough for me because I wanted to focus on the work instead of tracking down payment for it. However, it is part of every freelancers experience at some time or another and is something youll need to put considerable time and effort into if you dont want to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous clients.Bidding on new projects through sites such as Upwork.com. While some freelancer websites have a set price and allow the clients to find a freelance editor by looking through profiles and skillsets, others require that you bid on a project and set your own price for your work.2 pm â€" 5 pm: Easier projectsAfternoons are a great time to tackle the easier projects on your desk, especially if your afternoons are interrup ted by children getting home from school or other family obligations. Some examples of projects that I enjoyed doing most in the afternoon as a freelance editor were editing:Novels, short stories, or other works of fictionLetters (yes, many clients like to have their personal or business correspondence edited by a professional before they send it)Website content, such as blogs, online catalogues, or even food menus8 pm â€" 10 pm: Reading timeOne of the most important things to remember about working as a freelance editor is that in order to do your job well, you should readâ€"a lot! Reading not only sharpens your mind and hones your skills for spelling, grammar, and syntax, it also keeps you up-to-date on the competition out there faced by your clients who are writers. Knowing this competition and knowing what publishers are publishing enables you to provide informed, solid advice when your client requests comprehensive feedback from you.Reading not only sharpens your mind and hones your skills for spelling, grammar, and syntax, it also keeps you up-to-date on the competition out there faced by your clients who are writers. Photo by Kate Williams on Unsplash. So, you want to be a freelance editor? If this day in the life of a freelance editor sounds like something youd want to do, there are several ways to get started and build your freelance business. Obviously, you need to have some expertise when it comes to writing, spelling, punctuation, and English grammar as a whole, but you dont necessarily have to have a degree in journalism or English to start your freelance editing business. While some freelancer profile sites require that you show academic credentials (at the very least, a BA or BS degree), starting your own freelance editing business without using these websites is possibleâ€"especially if youve already built a solid reputation as a great editor through other avenues and through word of mouth. The skillset that will be most useful to you as a freelan ce editor will be your ability to do a thorough job under time pressure, since most projects you receive will have impending deadlines. In many cases, youll receive work that the writer finished last-minute, without leaving very much time at all for the editing process. You might also receive work that needs to be done immediately (within and hour or two), especially if it is business correspondence or emails that need to be sent as soon as possible.Ultimately, being a freelance editor comes with its challenges, but is a great way to earn extra money on the side of your full-time job until you can build up a client base and make it a full-time endeavor. The good part about doing freelance editing as a side project is that it will give you time to build your business and reputation as an editor without having to stress over making enough each month to cover your bills.

Disney Movies Free Essays

The negative influence of Disney movies on children Disney movies have a target audience of young impressionable children. Although Disney movies on first glance are entertaining and educational for the young mind it actually has many hidden messages that children do not realize are negative and believe that what they see is what is true. Disney movies contain a negative representations that are racist towards ethnic groups, sexism towards the behaviour and treatment of women, and construct false realities which are destructive to the human dignity. We will write a custom essay sample on Disney Movies or any similar topic only for you Order Now Disney movies contain stereotypical ideologies related to ethnicity that construct a negative representation. In many different Disney movies different ethnic groups are represented in different shapes and forms, some positive, others very offensive. As young children watch these movies they are exposed to all it’s content and belive that what they see is true. Disney does not directly display the racism but make it so that it is infered. Specifically, in a Disney movie the black community is shown as hyennas. The hyennas are represented as noisy, rude, and disruptive. For instance, when a boy was walking down the street with his mother a group of black children were playing in the park. The boy told his mother that the hyennas were behind them. The boy who watched the movie was made to believe that when he hears a noisy group it clicks in his mind that they are of the black community. The young boy does not know that it is wrong as he was exposed to the Disney movie that made him believe that racist stereotype. By the same token, in another Disney movie the mexican community are represented as little chihuahuas with an accent and negative stereotypes. Likewise the asian community is represented in one movie as siamese cats with slender eyes. As a consequence children who watch Disney movies are exposed to many racist stereotypical ideologies that construct negative representations. Secondly, Disney movies contains negative ideologies related to norms of behaviour for genders and age. How Disney portrays gender in their movies is in one of the most negative ways. Young boys and girls will watch the movies and will learn not only how to treat the other gender but also stereotypes on their own gender. Children will also learn that age is not just a number, it defines who you are as a person. Disney movies show older men as wise, smart know it alls which is all not that bad but not a truthful statement. It also shows that older women are mean, villeanous, evil, and rude which is also a false statement. Disney labels stereotypes on age groups that children believe and associate in real life. Similarly, Disney labels portrays negative ideologies of the norms of behaviour of both men and women. In fact in a very famous Disney, â€Å"Beauty and the Beast† the stereotypes are very easily seen to an educated eye but to a childs eye it’s just new information. In â€Å"Beauty and the Beast† there are many ideologies presented, a very obvious one is how the Prince Adam the Beast treats Belle, how Belle believes she can change the Beast. In the movie Belle is treated with huge amount of disrespect, being locked in her room and told to starve, getting abused physically and verbally. Belle also thinks that even though the Beast is mean and cold hearted she can change him in to a prince charming. When a child is exposed to how Belle is treated, how the Beast is such a powerful man, and how Belle still believes she can change him, the child will start to think like it is portrayed in the movie that women do not need to be treated properly, men are the dominant, strong and brave gender, and even though women are mistreated they will keep coming back in hope to change them. As a result, Disney movies portray negative ideologies to children related to norms of genders and how they are treated and how age affects the intellectuallity and personality. Lastly, Disney movies construct a false reality of this generations culture. By implementing all the different ideologies of race, gender, age, and many others a young child is easily influenced into believing that what he sees in his/her favorite disney movie is a reality of every day life. When a child learns negative ideologies such as stereotypes of ethnicity (like the boy who referred to a group of black children has hyennas as he remembered from a movie the laughing and noise they made) they start to believe that what happens in the film is also happens in reality. Young girls especially are the most influenced as in Disney women are portrayed as always cooking, cleaning, getting verbally, physcially and emotionally abused and just taking it. Young girls start to believe that it is a reality and it is their job to do those chores and it is acceptable to be treated poorly. Disney through their movies construct a false reality of how today’s generation works and destructs the human dignity. In closing, Disney movies contain a negative representations that are racist towards ethnic groups, sexism towards the behaviour and treatment of women, and construct false realities which are destructive to the human dignity. As a result of all the the negative stereotypes, young children who do not know any better than what they see in their favorite Disney are made to think that negative ideologies such as racism and sexism are acceptable in today’s reality. As a consequence children are given a propaganda by disney that they can not deconstruct since they are so young and construct a misrepresentation of society. In brief, Disney movies negatively influence children. How to cite Disney Movies, Essay examples

Academic year 2014/2015 Introduction: For a lot of years, the whole countries in the entire world have been witnessing an increment in progress and development. Based on what was released by the United Nation Population Fund in 2008, the world has a large number of urban societies and communities than the rural ones. It is expected that between two thousand and seven and two thousand and fifty, the number of people in the whole world would increase to become two and half billion. In addition, two third of the countries that dont have a huge development would remain in urban locations and places. Almost seventy five percent of this quick increase could be existed in cities with small areas in which more than half of the total international population live and work. As a matter of fact, people go and live in urban places because they provide them with health advantages like health care and insurance, huge supermarkets, food supplies, facilities and services as well as education and culture which contribute in growth, prosperity and economic boom in addition to technological improvement. Despite the fact that urban societies and development led to the growth and health on a large scale, it resulted in the production of negative defects and disadvantages. Due to the rapid increase in number of population, societies damage cities that dont have any kind of municipal control and dominion in order to deal with the incrementing difficulties and challenges. The situation is really hard especially in the developing states and areas which show and demonstrate a growth in poor houses and areas with concentrated number of people leading to the emission of gases. Furthermore, these states encounter huge risks due to the spread of diseases while the health systems fight and suffer to work efficiently but they fail. Poverty in Africa: As a matter of fact, relative poverty is a word used in order to refer to people who dont have enough money to live like their neighbors or other populations in the entire world. In addition, this word is used in other definitions and meanings like United Kingdom Child Poverty. As for politicians, there are arguments and discussions between them whether the classification of social categories between poor and rich people is regarded as a positive or a negative thing. On the other hand, there is another term called absolute poverty. There are other people who are poorer than the minimum limit. In other word, their week salary is less than the hourly salary of a British person which is five dollars and ninety three. Based on the definitions of World Bank, absolute poverty refers to people whose income is less than seventy five piasters or one and half sterling pounds in a day while extreme poverty refers to people whose income is less than one and quarter sterling pound or seventy five piasters. In certain areas in the whole world, seventy five piasters in a day are not sufficient to pay for the real and basic things needed in life like food, clothes and water as well as houses which are required so that those people could live in an appropriate human conditions. On the other hand, there are students who couldnt finish their education or even go to schools because they couldnt buy soap to wash their uniforms. According to an Indian economist named Amartya Sen, he wrote an analysis about Poverty and Famine and was awarded the Nobel Prize at the end of the nineties. Based on what he mentioned in that analysis, in the majority of cases, the causes that contributed in forming poverty and famine werent in the shortage of food supplies in the society but because of lack in social and economic growth and development. During the last thirty years, international absolute poverty has decreased from forty percent to twenty percent. On the contrary, the rates of poverty and famine in African countries didnt witness any kind of drop or reduction. Till today more than forty percent of people who live in Sub-Saharan Africa struggle and fight to survive and face poverty. On the other hand, poverty depends on the shares of a certain community for money more than the

Essay on Love and Graffiti Moon

Essay on Love and Graffiti Moon Essay on Love and Graffiti Moon Graffiti Moon is a story about love. Do you agree? The novel Graffiti Moon, written by Cath Crowley, follows the Love, heartbreaks and nose breaks of Lucy, Ed and Shadow over one adventurous night back in the day in Melbourne. The story is about love and how it is not always perfect. Lucy, Ed and the other characters learn how relationships are not perfect or how they imagine them to be. Lucy thinks Shadow is perfect but when they meet he is not all what she expected him to be. Lucy always fantasises about Shadow, she absolutely loves him. Shadow is all Lucy thinks about, she thinks he is perfect based on his art. Lucy judges Shadow by what she sees in his paintings. She mentions â€Å"A guy who paints things like that I could fall for. Really fall for†, this demonstrates how Lucy is actually starting to fall for Shadow though they have never met. Lucy would do almost anything to meet Shadow. Even though he dropped out of school she tells herself â€Å"let me tell him he’s still smart and funny, tell him that some of my most beautiful glass pieces have cracks running through them†. By saying this she wants him to be perfect though he isn’t all that she wanted him to be. Ed and Lucy’s first date did not go all that well, though the date was not perfect it may have benefited them in the end. On their first date Ed ‘accidently’ touched Lucy’s arse so she punched him in the face and broke his nose, later in the novel Lucy says â€Å"you grabbed my arse† and Ed replies with â€Å"You broke my

Prone vs. Supine

Prone vs. Supine Prone vs. Supine Prone vs. Supine By Mark Nichol It’s easy to confuse the meaning of prone and supine and it’s important to distinguish between them, because they’re antonyms. (I also discuss here some of the synonyms of each word.) Prone, from the Latin term pronus, means â€Å"inclined to,† and it is commonly used in this figurative sense as well as to mean â€Å"lying face down.† Pronate, used both as a verb and as an adjective, means â€Å"to bend forward† or â€Å"bent forward,† respectively. Prostrate, a synonym for prone, means not only â€Å"lying flat†; it has the additional connotation of â€Å"stretched out† and often refers to the adoption of that position to indicate submission, as a subject lying prostrate before a monarch. (Prostrate, not prostate; that’s the name of a gland in male mammals.) Prostrate is also the verb form, and prostration is the noun form. (Prostration is not to be confused with obeisance, which refers to the mere act of bowing.) Procumbent is another synonym; it also describes nonrooting plant stems that trail along the ground. Supine, from the Latin word supinus, means â€Å"thrown or turned backward,† and describes someone who is lying on one’s back; unlike prone, it has no figurative sense. Supinate is also an adjectival form, and supination is a noun meaning â€Å"the act or state of lying on one’s back.† Recumbent is a synonym that also suggests the act of leaning back or resting, as on a bed or couch; in addition, it describes such a pose in visual art. Decumbent, meanwhile, also means lying down and in botany denotes a plant that does that but has vertical parts. (Yes, incumbent, meaning â€Å"one who occupies an office or position,† is related to the other -cumbent terms here.) Prone and supine each have rarely used adverbial and noun forms: pronely (or simply prone) and supinely, and proneness and supineness. Pronation and supination are used in anatomical and medical contexts to refer to the position of limbs, especially, in sports medicine, to the placement of the foot while running; supination (or underpronation) can cause injury. Supine also has a meaning as a noun; it refers to an infinitive phrase starting with to or, in Latin, to a specific type of noun. Two terms similar to prone and supine are dorsal and ventral; dorsal refers to the back, and ventral refers to the abdomen. To help you remember which is which, think of how the first syllable of dorsal rhymes with porpoise, distinguished by its dorsal fin. Ventral, meanwhile, though its first syllable is not etymologically related to vent, can be remembered as the side from which you breathe. Mnemonic clues to help you remember which is which include thinking of the pro- in prone (which actually means â€Å"forward†) to remind you that when you are prone, your face is toward the floor or ground. Supine, meanwhile, can be related to spine, which when you are supine is in contact with the floor or ground. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Descriptive writing Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Descriptive writing - Assignment Example I won’t pack up the porch furniture today, because I want to hold on to this late remnant of the warm days just a little longer. The squirrel is sitting there by the pond, grooming herself. She turns and bounces towards for her store of hazelnuts. Every year I try to beat her to it, but every year she strips the tree before I even realize it is time to gather the harvest. She moves like a sine-wave, swift and light on her feet, chattering as she goes. Every hour of daylight means another layer of provisions in the dark earth. Soon she will sleep. I wonder if the squirrel dreams of summer in her hibernation haven? A solitary bee settles on the hedge before me. Just one. When I was a child there were lots of bees, and the hedge reverberated with their buzzing. Now there is only one and he drops lazily onto a tired-looking rose blossom. He lumbers on, somewhat clumsy, and carrying too much weight, in search of the last remaining blooms. Making the most of the time, he is, like me, grateful for the sun’s cheerful company. It is very still in the garden now. Where have all the bees gone? The rhythmic crash of the farmer’s mowing machine in the distance reminds me that the bees, too, have to adjust to modern lifestyle changes. Solitary bees, like self-employed couriers in the city, must learn to occupy their time alone, zooming from place to place, picking up and dropping off, guided by the logic of supply and demand. A cloud creeps over a quarter of the sky. The landscape before me now is cast in two shades: full color and muted shadows. Perhaps I should fetch my jacket. A pink petal drops from the fading rose. Fingers of cloud reach out for the sun, and now half of the sky is gray. The back door creaks behind me, as a light wind rises in the West. Now the sun has gone and the temperature has dropped. My old summer chairs need a coat of paint, and the table has a shaky leg. I make a mental note to have a look at

Designing Public Policy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Designing Public Policy - Essay Example 1 Toward a Gender-Neutral Policy: Protecting the Rights of Men Executive Summary Overview of Problem - Domestic violence rates in the U.K. have remained high despite laws aimed at criminalizing domestic violence and increasing the reporting of violent offenses to the police. Domestic violence is the cause of as much as 25 percent of all reported violent crime (British Crime Survey report, 2007-08). Surveys from the Home Office and a British Crime Survey have revealed that men were the victims in more than 40 percent of domestic violence incidents reported between 2004 and 2009. Yet cultural biases and gender pressures prohibit men from reporting acts of violence against them from women. â€Å"Domestic violence is often seen as a female victim/male perpetrator problem, but the evidence demonstrates that this is a false picture,† said a 2010 report from the charity group Parity. Outline of the Problem Introduction - This paper proceeds from the understanding that domestic violen ce as a whole – and violence against men in particular - represents a far more pervasive problem than is reflected in current government policy. This perspective provides the basis for a discussion of constraints, and of opportunities, to strengthen the rights of male domestic violence victims in the U.K. Recent proposals and subsequent inhibiting factors will be discussed, followed by the presentation of a targeted policy initiative. 2 Context: Summary and Identification of Impacted Group - The intent of this paper is to recommend a program for adopting a more equitable policy stance vis a vis improved victim advocacy for men. The outcome of a more enlightened approach would be heightened awareness of a far more troublesome issue than has generally been understood. As the government moves ahead with a test program intended to better protect domestic violence victims, policy should reflect a more balanced approach to gender –based violence. Otherwise, men will be vulne rable to what may well amount to cursory justice. Cause of the Problem: Impact of Current Conditions - In 2009, the Labour Party announced its intention to give police unprecedented authority in domestic violence situations. Their proposal included Domestic Violence Protection Orders, also known as Go orders, which would require violent offenders to leave their homes immediately for up to two weeks, giving victims a respite during which they could reflect on their situation in safety and determine a course of action. Offenders who violate the terms of a Go order would be in contempt of court, subject to further criminal charges and could be incarcerated. Previously, only offenders placed under arrest could be removed from the premises. A Go order would give police extensive discretionary power to act on behalf of a victim believed to be in imminent danger. Despite its non-gender-specific language, the scheme has been criticized for giving police too much leeway to act based on confl icting information and 3 possibly spurious claims made at the scene of the crime. This is troubling in light of the fact that police, in general, have too little training to accurately assess and react to often confusing circumstances surrounding a domestic violence event. Men continue to be responsible for domestic violence incidents by a considerable amount, however, the 2009 study revealed that violence against men rose considerably between 2004 and 2008. Nearly 3,000

Then we have made marketing strategies for our product. We have divided market into different segments and decided to target the male, female, youngster mature and old age person. We have also paid special attention to the packaging, color and price of the product. We have decided to place the product in all the markets of Pakistan. We will promote our product through electronic media, print media, cable, and outdoor sources. We shall also conduct a market survey in future to know the opinion of public about our product and developed our product accordingly to our customers changing needs and demands. Description of the Company Freezy is the brand name of new juice launched by Freshwater in Pakistan. Freshwater is founded in 2010 with the launching of their first product named as Freezy. High capital investments are involved in new business. We have started this business to produce new products and to monopolize the market through our products. Our target products in which we are specialized are juices. So we will produce new and new type of juices in different flavors which already doesnt exist in the market. After observing the high consumption of sugar cane juices at the roadside sellers of non-purified sugar cane juice, we realized the need for sugar cane juice because for long period of time there was no entry in the market as sugar cane juice in the form of disposable bottle packing. We are launching our product throughout the Pakistan except some cold climate areas. Mission Statement To refresh the people of all ages with our product. We want to be at the top in the field of juices and breweries. Vision To evolve as one of the best Producer of quality sugarcane which is organically, grown extract juice scientifically and, serve totally natural healthy and hygienic DESI refreshment in the world and continue to retain the position. Product Our product is basically a sugarcane juice in a bottle pack. The product will be enjoying a monopoly in the market as there is no existing sugarcane juice in the form of disposable bottle in the market but if we see as overall market than there is no monopoly for this juice because this juice is been sold on the roadsides by crushing the sugar cans with machines in the glass. Sugar cane juice is a healthy alternative to refined sugar. While both sweeteners are made from sugar cane, evaporated cane juice does not undergo the same degree of processing that refined sugar does. Therefore, unlike refined sugar, it retains more of the nutrients found in sugar cane. Sugar cane juice is a highly refreshing drink. It contains about 15 per cent natural sugar and is rich in organic salts and vitamins. Fresh sugar cane juice has no preservatives, however its tendency to turn black from oxidation soon after pressing is very high, so to secure from oxidation we should pack in air tight di sposable bottle packaging. Current Situation Market Analysis Market Definition: Demographic and Geographic segmentation: Age: 3+ Years Gender: Both male and female. Income: All social classes except lower lower. Geographic: We are targeting all of the Pakistan except some of the northern areas in Pakistan Market Needs In summer people of all ages take soft drinks and juices to reduce their thirst. So Sugarcane juice in disposable bottle pack is highly demanded by customers because it reduces the thirst and it is useful for healthy life because it is hygienic and pure. So when it is highly available at affordable price at everywhere customers will use Sugarcane juice than soft drinks because it has no side effects and it is safe. Total population As our current target is the whole country Pakistan other than some northern areas so total population will be almost 100+ million people. Potential market As if we take a look at the market of Pakistan huge number of people are interested in consuming liquid products as their daily usage products like juices. The sugar cane juice is available on the roadsides but they are not much purified which is block between the juice and the upper class customers which are basically loyal to quality specially. So the probability of marketing Sugarcane juice to potential customer as upper class or quality loyal customer will be high. If we look overall our potential customer are almost all of the people in the country from lower middle class to upper middle class except the northern areas because people are not much demanding the frosty drinks there. Market segmentation Selecting Target Market: According to market segmentation our target market are the people of almost all the classes starting from lower upper to upper class. As according to the demographics people use to drink the sugarcane juice in the summer season. As this product is particularly for summer season because it only taste well in hot climate. And consuming it in winter doesnt suits the mind of people because people tend to consume hot products like coffee and tea. Our less focus areas are the northern areas because throughout the year those areas are having cold climates. Our Target Market based on demographics Includes: Individuals with age 3 years and above Individuals across all income groups Working and non working individuals Students Institutions and offices Restaurants and hotels Psychographic Segmentation: According to psychographic segmentation we targeted people who are: Health conscious customers Customers who have preference towards Nature and natural products Quality conscious customers Customers who have diverse tastes and Seek variety Non users and potential users Competitor: Our competitors are the roadside sellers of sugar cane juice. But the substitute products are another big competitive force affecting our product in the market. Substitute competitors include Manufacturers and producers of: Branded and unbranded fruit juices. Fruit based milk drinks. Natural mineral water. Fruit shakes. These substitute products are totally different in nature from the sugar cane juice but still its a substitute because these are also cold juices. There are some factors which differ allot between our juice and roadside juice sellers juice who are the main competitor of FREEZY Juice: We are different from roadside sellers because Our juice is a purified and quality assured product. We offer juice in a sealed bottle packing where as roadside sellers are delivering the product in the glasses. We have quality standards and can turn customers from the road to our outlet through effective marketing strategies. Due to lack of packing roadside sellers are not easily available everywhere. Whereas our product is available in every general store in almost all the target cites in Pakistan. Market trends: In target market there is trend of soft drinks and juices. People use juices to have a fit life and also to serve their guests as well. Because juices are hygienic and nutritious and have a good taste then soft drinks. In summer its usage is more so the availability should be increased to meet the demand of customers. Summary of Situation Analysis: SWOT Analysis: Internal: Strength: First opportunity that we enjoy is that we are playing a monopoly in the means of sugar cane juice in the form of packing in Pakistan. As for first producer of sugar cane juice in bottle packing in Pakistan we can make our customer loyal to our product in the means of brand, quality, price etcà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦. by making effective marketing strategies. Weaknesses : As the juice is fresh and no artificial flavors are used in the production of the juice. So juice has not long lasting life. The life of juice is 15 days which creates barriers for not buying juices in bulk for home use. External: Opportunity As for new product in the market we can make huge number of profits from the market. We can introduce flavored sugarcane juices. E.g., mint and ginger flavor etcà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ This in results can increase the sales to earn more profits to the organization. We can export our product to foreign country in order to earn more profit. Threats Due to growth in inflation rate in Pakistan the intermediary goods are getting expensive which lead to an increase in price in future and increase in price leads to a loss of customer from the most lower class of our target market and price conscious customers as well, and may affect sales by turning to substitute and competitive goods. Our product is especially for summers so there is low number of sales in winter season. So high marketing costs are required to increase sales in winter season. There are no many entry barriers so a large numbers of local juices enter in juices market. Marketing Strategies: Product: Core benefit Core benefit means the services and benefits the customer is really buying. Our customer fulfills its need of thrust and refreshment by buying our freezy juice. Juice as being a pure sugarcane juice without any artificial flavors is also a core benefit of our product Augmented product Products that include deign, features and packaging that go beyond consumer expectations and differentiate the product from competitors. Our juice taste and flavor is according to the customer expectations because we provide 100% pure juice. We have no compromise with quality Following things include in the sale of product: Design The design of sugarcane juice that it will be in attractive and stylish disposable bottle pack in following size: 250ml 500ml 1000ml Features The features of our product are: Use full for healthy life Good in taste Help to digest food Everyday Energy Available in different flavors in future. Packaging: Our product will be in disposable bottle packaging and is air tight sealed so the juice could survive for some period of time. The design of our packing is attractive and eye catching. Price: The price of the product can also influence the buying behavior of the consumers because in Pakistan there are different level of classes based on the income difference so price is the one of the important factor, some of the consumer can afford the price and others cant, so we must set the price of the product that is afforded by all the social classes of the region. So we use penetration pricing strategy. If we look at the middle middle till lower lower class in Pakistan all of the people are highly price conscious. Price Structure (Consumer price): 250ml Rs.20 500 ml Rs.35 1000ml Rs.60 Distribution: The place of the distribution and availability of the product also influence the buying behavior because if the product is in reach of the consumer he will prefer it and if it is hard to find the product in the market he will never buy that product. So we have effective distribution strategies by making distributors in every city and provided them with number of facilities like order bookers and sales persons and a supervisor. And we allow our distributors to supply product to both wholesalers and retailers. Because of this our product will be available at more shops and our sales will increase. Distribution Channel: Manufacturer Distributor Retailer Wholesaler Promotional Strategies: The promotion of the product i.e. the advertisement, sales promotion and other promotional tools can change the buying behavior because some of the individuals highly influenced by the advertisement of the product. We have decided to use integrated marketing communication in which there will be blend of different marketing promotional tools that will convey clear and consistent message of our product to the customers. These Promotional tools which are given below: Newspapers: Newspaper has the widest readership and circulation among our targeted market; these would carry most of the advertisements for the publication media. Also, the print ads will be published in other much read newspapers like be designed, i.e. half page and quarter page. Television: Tele commercials will be aired on sports channels and news channels as the viewer ship Of these channels is highly common among the targeted market. Character Analysis a Christmas Carol Fezziwig Essay

Dickens uses Fezziwig to represent views and values, which were once a common way of life for people, to give to the poor and help others, yet these values, and ideals were slowly fading in the 19th Century economic change Shown to Scrooge by the Ghost of Christmas Past, was old happy and energetic Fezziwig, who he was once apprenticed to when he was young, who taught Scrooge to be sharp witted, cunning moneylender like himself. The Ghost of Christmas Past takes Scrooge back to his young adulthood, to relearn the valuable lessons, which Fezziwig taught about life, that wealth and greed, should never come before generosity and those close around you. Fezziwig, the avid businessman, had plenty of money, yet lent it generously, while not holding back in throwing large parties every Christmas for every single one of his workers and some of their close friends. Fezziwig views his workers as members of his family, contrasting with Scrooge who wants nothing to do with his own nephew, only son of his sister, let alone one of his workers like Bob Crachit. Fezziwig and his wife were excellent hosts, involving themselves in every dance despite their age, showing that they were a â€Å"top couple†¦ a good stiff piece of work cut out for them.† Fezziwig was described as being quite old, yet lively, wearing a large Welsh wig, while having the dexterity to still be fit as an old man, in comparison to Scrooge who’s described as sickly and stiff, showing how by associating yourself with others, it keeps your spirit alive and active, when you seclude yourself, you tend to stop caring about yourself and everyone and everything around you. Not only did Fezziwig invite everyone who worked for him to enjoy and to have a merry Christmas, at the end of the night, he even went to the effort to, â€Å"shaking hands with every person individually† showing how he cared and thought well of every single worker of his, while you hear young Scrooge and Dick â€Å"pouring out their hearts in praise of Fezziwig.† The ghost of Christmas past helps to trip Scrooge’s guilt, by quoting â€Å"a small matter†¦ to make these silly folks so full of gratitude†, showing how insubstantial the amount of money and how effortlessly it would cost Scrooge to give to his workers, like Fezziwig gave to him, and how big the reward of seeing gratitude in the eyes of his workers would have and its impact. â€Å"Fezziwig had the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome; a pleasure or a toil. Say that his power lay in words and looks; in things so slight and insignificant that it is impossible to add and count them up: what then? The happiness he gave was quite as great as if it cost a fortune.† Fezziwig is a vital, key character in Scrooges transformation, used by Dickens as a FOIL against the character of Scrooge, shown to him by the Ghost of Christmas Past, contrasting the two types of rich, the one who shows kindness and generosity, reaping the rewards, by seeing the gratitude and fulfilment of happiness that brings, by giving to others. The other was on the opposite side like Scrooge, being lonely and bitter, with all the wealth in the world, yet a smile never breaking out onto their cold faces. The memory of Fezziwig’s generosity and holiday cheer helped to jolt and move Scrooge’s stony heart.

Using the Keyword Final with Inheritance in Java

While one of Javas strengths is the concept of inheritance, in which one class can derive from another, sometimes its desirable to prevent inheritance by another class. To prevent inheritance, use the keyword final when creating the class. For example, if a class is likely to be used by other programmers, you may wish to prevent inheritance if any subclasses created could cause problems. A typical example is the String class. If we wanted to create a String subclass: public class MyString extends String{ï » ¿} We would be faced with this error: cannot inherit from final java.lang.String The designers of the String class realized that it was not a candidate for inheritance and have prevented it from being extended. Why Prevent Inheritance? The main reason to prevent inheritance is to make sure the way a class behaves is not corrupted by a subclass. Suppose we have a class Account and a subclass that extends it, OverdraftAccount. Class Account has a method getBalance(): public double getBalance(){ return this.balance; } At this point in our discussion, subclass OverdraftAccount has not overridden this method. (Note: For another discussion using this Account and OverdraftAccount classes, see how a subclass can be treated as a superclass). Lets create an instance each of the Account and OverdraftAccount classes: Account bobsAccount new Account(10); bobsAccount.depositMoney(50); OverdraftAccount jimsAccount new OverdraftAccount(15.05,500,0.05); jimsAccount.depositMoney(50); //create an array of Account objects //we can include jimsAccount because we //only want to treat it as an Account object Account[] accounts {bobsAccount, jimsAccount}; //for each account in the array, display the balance for (Account a:accounts) { System.out.printf(The balance is %.2f%n, a.getBalance()); } The output is: The balance is 60.00 The balance is 65.05 Everything appears to work as expected, here. But what if OverdraftAccount overrides the method getBalance()? There is nothing to prevent it from doing something like this: public class OverdraftAccount extends Account { private double overdraftLimit; private double overdraftFee; //the rest of the class definition is not included public double getBalance() { return 25.00; } } If the example code above is executed again, the output will be different because the getBalance() behavior in the OverdraftAccount class is called for jimsAccount: The output is: The balance is 60.00 The balance is 25.00 Unfortunately, the subclass OverdraftAccount will never provide the correct balance because we have corrupted the behavior of the Account class through inheritance. If you design a class to be used by other programmers, always consider the implications of any potential subclasses. This is the reason the String class cannot be extended. Its extremely important that programmers know that when they create a String object, its always going to behave like a String. How to Prevent Inheritance To stop a class from being extended, the class declaration must explicitly say it cannot be inherited. This is achieved by using the final keyword: public final class Account { } This means that the Account class cannot be a superclass, and the OverdraftAccount class can no longer be its subclass. Sometimes, you may wish to limit only certain behaviors of a superclass to avoid corruption by a subclass. For example, OverdraftAccount still could be a subclass of Account, but it should be prevented from overriding the getBalance() method. In this case use, the final keyword in the method declaration: public class Account { private double balance; //the rest of the class definition is not included public final double getBalance() { return this.balance; } } Notice how the final keyword is not used in the class definition. Subclasses of Account can be created, but they can no longer override the getBalance() method. Any code calling that method can be confident it will work as the original programmer intended.

What is Queer Theory - 1029 Words

â€Å"Queer theory does not provide a positivity, rather it is a way of producing reflection, a way of taking a stand vis à ¡ vis the authoritative standard†. This quote comes from Thomas Dowson who suggests that the queer remark makes room for reflection while it requires a reflection of ones own self as well as their own involvement. The term queer can be a quarrelsome phrase and one that is surrounded by disregard, triumph and rejection. It mainly concentrates on the imbalance between sex, gender and lust. Ancestries of its intellectual demonstration can be seen in â€Å"psychoanalysis, sexology, feminism, lesbian and gay studies, postmodernism and poststructuralism, HIV/AIDS activism and the black civil rights movement†. When you use the term queer generally, it can illustrate various academic fields that are struggling to access ambition, individuality, status, relationality, morality and principles (Giffney et al 2009, p.8). Queer theory provides the outlook that all characters are social structures, the notion of male and female can be portrayed the same as masculinity and femininity. Even though queer theory can often be misunderstood, it doesn’t get involved with particularly with homosexuality. It concerns all shapes of identity, particularly the ones connected to sexuality. Queer theory can be seen as a political and cultural activity, it isn’t only a substitute method to investigate portrayal. Therefore, the plan is to rebel and weaken common beliefs to sexuality.
